Dear T+L Reader, The cities of the American South are incredibly charming. Our readers even named Charleston, South Carolina, the World’s Best City last year. But the smaller Southern destinations — the ones that can sometimes be overlooked — are just as appealing.
Our friends at Southern Living asked their readers to rank the small towns they love to visit, with categories including food, shopping, scenery, and the friendliness of the locals. This year’s list of the South’s Best Small Towns reveals lively downtown scenes, great local character, and gorgeous antebellum architecture.
From the Atlantic shore to the Appalachian foothills, any of the top 10 small Southern towns would make for an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend getaway.
Happy travels, T+L Editors
