and a chat with the Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, to find out more about life on the island.
Dear kopral,
Some people love it, some people hate it: this week, we're focusing on camping. With most people holidaying closer to home this summer, what better way to explore our island-home than packing your tent poles and taking to the great outdoors? Camping is safe, green and – let's face it – a bit of an adventure. From a former strawberry farm in East Sussex to the wilds of Orkney, start planning today with our selection of the best campsites in the UK.
Next, it's over to another island, this time the tropical beauty of Mauritius. Some 800 miles distant from Madagascar in the balmy Indian Ocean, Mauritius responded effectively to Covid-19, recording fewer than 350 cases. We chatted with Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, to find out more about life on the island, and when we might be able to laze on its shores once more.
Have fun,
Helen

Camping's revival isn't just about the money in people's pockets; there are few better ways to get some fresh air and few more eco-friendly trips. The best campsites in the UK stretch from Scilly to Orkney, taking in New Forest ponies, bushcraft courses and ancient trails, and are fine options for a summer that's due some sunshine.
The island of Mauritius is synonymous with bleach-white sandy beaches and luxurious resorts, but there's also rugged mountain peaks and teeming wildlife. The island responded early to coronavirus, thankfully resulting in low case numbers and fatality figures. We spoke to Arvind Bundhun to find out more.
