INSIDE: A military-inspired workout

We love the burgers, hotdogs, and Spartan race sales. But Memorial Day isn't about any of that.

I remember the day I got the call from Colonel Nye and Admiral McRaven. They wanted a Spartan race tethered to the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) in Tampa. I was blown away.

This thing we started — Spartan — had intrigued some of the most elite divisions of the U.S. Military.

I flew down to Tampa to meet with the team. These people I greatly admired and respected wanted to join forces with Spartan. I had to pinch myself.

Since that meeting, Spartan has become integrated with the military all over the world, even at bases on foreign soil.

Nothing fills me with more pride and motivation than the uniformed services. Over the years, I've had the privilege of spending time with some of the most distinguished leaders. Admirals McRaven and Harward, Generals Fenton, Van Antwerp, and Droopy, CSM Frank Grippe, Colonel Nye, and many other remarkable military brass have shared their stories, wisdom, strength, discipline, resilience, leadership, and business practices with Spartan.

And one more thing…

Their workouts.

As many of you know, the annual Murph challenge is always a test of endurance and willpower. It's a brutal workout every Spartan should try: 1-mile run (weighted, if possible), then 300 squats, 200 pushups, and 100 pull-ups, followed by another mile.

But recently, Admiral Harward's BOB workout nearly killed me. It's a full-body workout that only requires a pull-up bar.

Join me in this workout as we honor our military heroes this Memorial Day Weekend, remembering those who have fallen and appreciate the ongoing sacrifices of those who continue to serve.

It's our duty to honor them not just in words but in actions by living with the same courage, commitment, and integrity.

CHANGE YOUR MINDSET IN 90 SECONDS

How do you go from indifferent to disciplined? Repeat this over and over.

  1. Commit to the work. Tell yourself that quitting is not an option.
  2. Ask your friends to hold you accountable. The ancient Spartans used this tactic as the foundation of their camaraderie and to increase likelihood of success.
  3. Celebrate small wins. But don't rest on your laurels. Take a moment to recognize your growth, and move forward.

A: Hey Fabrice, Tried-and-true strength training with progressive overload will help you build the strength you're looking for. Remember that developing strength takes time, so don't give up if results don't come quickly. And finally, fuel your body with enough protein to support your gains.
