This Sunday (28th March) is International Earth Hour. From 8:30pm to 9:30pm, lights will turn off around the world to raise awareness on environmental issues and urge people to take action. To celebrate our beautiful planet, discover our top 6 bucket list places in the world, as highlighted from our Rough Guide to the 100 Best Places on Earth.
And on the theme of days to remember, on the 25th March we celebrated Tolkien Day. While we may not be able to visit the Shire in New Zealand at the moment, there are plenty of places in England that inspired Tolkien's writings, including his home near Birmingham – check out our guide on how to spend a weekend in Birmingham.
So once you've snuggled down with Lord of the Rings and planned your Birmingham itinerary, don't forget to turn off the lights!
Have fun,
Aimee

Late 2019, we published a Rough Guide to the 100 Best Places on Earth. A stylish coffee table book, full of inspiring photographs and carefully curated places and experiences to take in 2020. Back then we didn't think about a possible pandemic limiting all of our travels to a bare minimum in 2020. We recently browsed the book again and are now more excited than ever to discover these places. Read further to find our top 6 best places for 2021 and beyond.
If we told you that Birmingham, the industrial powerhouse of the UK in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, had more than six million trees, you probably wouldn't believe us. If we said it had more parks than any other European city, you might question our judgement.
