This week our editors gathered the celebrate Rough Guides 40th birthday – and we couldn't resit a bit of travel gossip too

Dear kopral,   Psst... we've got some gossip for you   How are you? Confession: we're not feeling as fresh as we could be at Rough Guides HQ... It's been a busy few days! On Wednesday we celebrated Rough Guides 40th birthday with a party at the iconic London bookshop Stanfords, and festivities continued with yesterday's Rough Guides staff summer party.   Our team raising a glass (or several) to 40 years of Rough Guides   Picture the scene: a bunch of the best travel editors in the business gathered at a rooftop bar in east London, talking travel (among other things!) while rosé flowed freely. Naturally, talk turned to our favourite places,  unfulfilled travel dreams and our juiciest insider info on the world's coolest destinations.    We'd hate for you to miss out, dear reader, so here's your chance to eavesdrop on the best bits from our editors' soirée. Overheard at the Rough Guides editors party...   One editor asked: Why go overseas when the UK has places like this?   We debated the best place on Earth – and squabbled over which places deserve a spot in this gorgeous book.   This place was described as "Tuscany without the crowds".   While an extremely well-travelled individual rates this as one of his best ever experiences.   And we all agreed we'd wake up here every day if we could.   One of our team is just back from here  and made us insanely jealous with her beach photos.   Another editor can't wait for her exciting city break this weekend.   These places are apparently as good as they look on Instagram.   And this awesome city was proposed as the location for next year's summer party (here's hoping!).
