It's September, the most exciting time of the year...at least in the DEKA universe.

There is so much going on this month, and we don't want you to miss a single bit of it. We have the latest and greatest DEKA Quarterly Challenge, a newly added DEKA FIT Ultra at DEKA FIT Florida weekend, and a whole lot of final opportunities to qualify for the 2024 DEKA World Championship. Simply put, this is the perfect month to immerse yourself in all things DEKA.

Let's dig in on all the good stuff we have on deck for you this month.
We are now in the FINAL WEEKS to qualify for the 2024 DEKA World Championship.

With the 2024 DEKA qualifyfing season ending on Sunday, September 15th, you only have a couple more weekends to earn a DEKA Mark that will help you punch your ticket to the Big Show in Ocala, Florida December 13-15.

Here's the good news: we have a LOT of events for you to choose from in the next couple weeks.

If you want to qualify for the DEKA FIT World Championship on December 13th, we have three qualifying events left across the globe, including DEKA FIT Florida Weekend in the U.S.

Or sign up for one of the 80 DEKA MILE and STRONG events hosted by DEKA Affiliates all over the world over the next couple weeks.

This year, we'll be inviting the top 15 elite and age group individuals and teams plus the top 15 overall ruck athletes for DEKA FIT, DEKA MILE, and DEKA STRONG after the season officially ends on September 15th. Want to guarantee a spot for yourself on the DEKA World Championship start line in December? Sign up for a DEKA event on or before September 15th and give it all you've got to lock down one of those top 15 spots.
The DEKA "It Takes Two" Challenge is officially on!

This is the third quarterly challenge of 2024 and is a 2-person challenge focusing on Zone 2 (Row) and Zone 8 (Dead Ball Wall-Over). It's a short yet spicy sweat fest that will help you get better and faster at these two crucial zones in the DEKA Arena.

As with all DEKA Quarterly Challenges, this challenge must be hosted or facilitated by a DEKA Affiliate. And this one comes with a unique twist - at least one teammate must NOT be a member of the DEKA Affiliate gym where the challenge is being completed. This is a chance for you to find a friend, family member, co-worker, or neighbor and introduce them to your favorite DEKA Affiliate gym. Or if you're not a member, find someone who is and partner up with them to take the challenge.

The DEKA Affiliate with the most Challenge Marks on the It Takes Two Leaderboard will win a coveted Gold Spartan RAM, and all of the glory and bragging rights that come with it.

It's about when you reach DEKA Zone 8 that things start to feel a bit...heavy.

You just wiped yourself out on the air bike and now you have to start lifting and throwing around a heavy ball. This zone flies a bit under the radar and yet can still make or break your race. So let's get into how to get stronger, faster, and better at the dead ball shoulder over and/or yoke over.

We reached out to Rose Dey, owner of OG DEKA Affiliate Zeta Wolf Fitness in Fuquay Varina, NC for her top three tips to dominate Zone 8:

1. Drop the ball directly over the shoulder while stepping forward with the same leg so the ball drops directly down. You then step back with same leg over the ball and repeat. This saves time and prevents you from getting dizzy by turning around twenty times. You'll use the same technique for yoke. Keep it close to the bar so when you get to the other side, you don't have to carry the ball to the yoke. Stay close to the crossbar on each side, saving multiple steps.

2. Deadlifts and kettlebell deadlift high pulls are great exercises to help with the hinge as well as strength through the posterior chain.

3. Squats including body weight, front squats, etcetera help with mobility and ability to use more leg drive and less lower back. Above all, train for it. Build lots of leg endurance with tons of weighted lunges. Practice foot speed by doing high RPM on a spin bike at various resistance levels.
