After my trek on the Camino de Santiago, I spent some time relaxing in Spain's Canary Islands. My favorite stop was Lanzarote, where I had a leisurely meal in a seaside restaurant after spending the afternoon lounging by the pool at this delightful (and sustainable) boutique hotel. You likely won't fully see the nuns, who live in religious contemplation away from the outside world, but you can briefly chat with them through a screened window to buy their baked goods. | Madrid and Barcelona also have convents that sell pastries – so it's worth researching if you're headed to Spain for a memorable experience (and a belly full of delicious treats). – Melissa Yeager, Senior News Editor | | | More travel news you can use | | | | The United States celebrates Independence Day on Monday, July 4, and it's got lots of historic places to visit. Though you may not get there in time for the fireworks and barbecues this year, it's worth starting to plan your next trip, especially now that the US has rolled back its COVID-19 testing requirement for entry. | | | Getting the most out of your visit to Jordan is about to get a bit more affordable. The country's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities is now offering the Jordan Pass, a package that combines a tourist visa with admission to about 40 tourist sites across the country for a discounted price. | | | | How would you rate this newsletter? | | | This email was sent to you by: | Lonely Planet Publications Ltd. | 1101 Red Ventures Drive, Fort Mill, SC 29707 | | | |
