Brazil Shutting Down X

The Supreme Court of Brazil has ordered the shutdown of Elon Musk's social media platform X on Friday for refusing to comply with a court order.

The order by Justice Alexandre de Moraes gave internet service providers and app stores five days to block access to X. The judge also imposed a daily penalty of $8,900 for users in Brazil who use a virtual private network to evade the ban. In his decision, de Moraes said X will remain blocked until it complies with his orders. Read the full story here›

Zelenskyy Sacks Air Chief After F-16 Crash

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy fired the head of the nation's air force on Friday amid rumors that a Ukrainian F-16 jet was shot down by friendly fire.

Though Zelenskyy provided no direct reason for removing Lt. Gen. Mykola Oleschuk, his decision comes a day after the Ukrainian military confirmed one of its F-16s had crashed, killing pilot Oleksiy Mes, on Aug. 26. The Ukrainian pilot had reportedly been deployed in the skies over Ukraine to help shoot down an incoming wave of Russian drones and cruise missiles when his aircraft went down.

At a Thursday press briefing, deputy Pentagon press secretary Sabrina Singh said she couldn't be certain whether the Ukrainian F-16 crash was the result of friendly fire potentially involving a Western-donated Patriot air defense missile system. Read the full story here›

'Black Myth' and the Real Problem With Chinese Video Games

A Chinese video game has jumped to the top of sales charts. The game, "Black Myth: Wukong," sold over 10 million copies within a few days of release. And while the game caused a number of controversies, those are the least of the problems with Chinese video games overall. The real problem with video games coming out of China actually has to do with the anti-cheat software that gets installed on players' devices.

Our colleague Joshua Philipp discusses all this and more in Friday's episode of Crossroads. Watch the episode here›

What Art Has Lost
What Art Has Lost
Much of today's art tends toward the abstract, but it wasn't always this way. Realistic art was central to Christian education since the Renaissance, presenting history and theology through images that resonated deeply with viewers.

Realism in art goes beyond mere representation—it's a theological practice that communicates the divine and reinforces moral values. By embracing realism, artists follow in the footsteps of Renaissance masters, portraying the beauty of God's creation in uplifting and educational ways.

But in an age of relativism, where modernism has long challenged these traditions, the stakes are high. There are moral repercussions of this artistic shift. The abandonment of realism and the embrace of abstract forms leads people away from the truth and beauty inherent in God's creation. It may be time to recognize the spiritual and educational power of realistic art that preserves faith and values.
