Trump at Al Smith Dinner Former President Donald Trump was the keynote speaker at the annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner last night. The dinner is an annual fundraiser hosted by Catholics in New York, raising millions every year.
By tradition, Trump was expected to tell a few self-deprecating jokes in the evening but he had got nothing this time. "There's nothing to say. I guess I just don't see the point of taking shots at myself when other people have been shooting at me for a hell of a long time," Trump said as the audience burst into laughter.
Also traditionally, the Al Smith dinner has been attended by both major presidential candidates since 1960, but Vice President Kamala Harris turned down the invitation this year, becoming the first presidential candidate since Democrat Walter Mondale in 1984 who didn't attend the event.
